Dev Update: Precipice (7/23/2026)
Between the launch of Swarmworld Arcturus and its first story, the Arbelos Part 1 finale, and a key update on robot legs, it has been a big week for Precipice: Mech Miniatures Combat. For more information, read on!
Swarmworld Arcturus
You can now read Story 1: Maris. Here’s an excerpt from Brandon Perdue’s first story for this world:
“The thump and tremor of the passing mechafauna rarely woke Maris anymore; once every week for five years gave her plenty of time to learn to tune out the noise. Mother never had become accustomed to the passing of the giant machines, though, which meant Maris did not get to sleep in on convoy day if she was inside the house. Sleeping on the roof was nearly as good as sleeping inside, as the weather on their petal was quite temperate. Lights from the opposite petals glowed softly above in wavering pools; Maris could only just make out the shapes of the structures scattered along them in small clusters. She liked the reminder that there were people beyond just her immediate neighbors. Maris had seen images from the settlement library of what Earth’s sky looked like at night, the borderless sweep of countless tiny points of light. Those images always made the night sky look so distracting.
The bloom’s five petals were opening by the time the mechafauna strutted past. Maris was awake.”

Arbelos Part 1 Finale
The first five Arbelos stories are now available to read online! The showdown between Hazhlet and the unknown machine wraps up the first arc of the Arbelos stories. Here’s an excerpt:
“Auglez awoke to the roar of the M-Trak’s autocannon. She was braced in the cabin, seated with a view out the front port. She watched as Hazhlet’s first shot skittered off the shambling hulk’s right forearm. The second whipped into a damaged section of its torso. The third struck below its left shoulder pod, severing the dangling remains of the arm below. Several other bullets sprayed wide into the mist. Each time a shell struck, a crunch like buckling ice rang out and ruddy, glowing cracks spiderwebbed out from the impact point.
On the shadow came, racing on unsteady legs.”

Robot Legs
Legs are one of the most impractical part of mechs, and thus one of the things that make them most awesome. So unsurprisingly, a lot of design time has been spent on refining how you use your mech’s legs in battle. You can find out more about legs, as well as the direction of the forthcoming Open Alpha v1.1 update here!
