Dev Update: Precipice (8/13/2026)

The machine keeps moving forward as we bring you the fourth Swarmworld Arcturus story (the capstone of this arc), an update on how mech cores have evolved through playtesting, and a preview of an upcoming world!

Swarmworld Arcturus: Beithir

In an otherworldly place, Maris and Komodo find a mechafauna graveyard… and must face its grim keeper in a fight for survival. Read on! This marks the fourth of Brandon Perdue’s Swarmworld Arcturus stories. If you haven’t yet had a chance to begin reading these tales of human explorers and giant robot animals on an alien world, you can start at Chapter 1 and read this arc in its entirety today!

Core Issues

For the next few weeks, we’ll be reviewing all of the parts of a typical (humanoid) mech construction. We started with Leg Day, but now we continue on to talk about the most fundamental of parts: the core. Read on to learn about what the core represents, and how it has continued to evolve as the game design coalesces!

World Preview: Harness

In the coming weeks, we’ll go from the depths of space to the countryside of the peninsula. Harness is the brainchild of my longtime colleague and Star Trek: Into the Unknown co-designer Michael Gernes, and draws upon his knowledge of game design, storytelling, and medieval combat. Our story begins in the city of Premonta, its gates darkened by the shadow of war. Yet even as armies collide in battle, ancient forces stir in the background, and a flame long thought extinct begins to burn again. Brought to life by the incredible art of Anka Sep, Harness shows yet another singular vision of the sorts of worlds one can reach through the Precipice. I can’t wait to share it with you soon!
